There's a hot new trend going on right now and it's called micro-blogging. So what's a micro-blog? And moreover, what's Twitter? Twitter is a micro-blogger platform that allows users to create entries that are only 140 characters in length. These entries are referred to as "tweets."

Originally designed to keep friends and family up to date on what you're doing, Twitter can also be a great place to share your latest book project, promotional ideas as well as interacting with fellow tweets (folks who twitter) and writers. And yes, you can have a blog and a Twitter page. I have both but I feed my blog into my Twitter site so that my Twitter page gets updated each time I add new content to my blog. There's an easy application to add your blog feed to Twitter, it takes just minutes to do. Head on over to: Twitterfeed.

To sign up for a Twitter account just complete their short sign up form. Remember to brand yourself! This is important. Once you create a Twitter account you can't go back and change your name so find something that works for you. Maybe it's fictionwriter or businesswriter or whatever you want. My Twitter page is bookgal which is fun play on words for what I do (and what I love). Once you have a Twitter account you can immediately start tweeting. The service is completely free and you can also keep up with other people's tweets by "following" them. Their micro-blog entries will show up on your Twitter home page so you can easily keep track of them. You can also be notified by phone when they add a tweet. You can twitter from anywhere, even your phone. I've been known to twitter from my blackberry.

Why on Earth Would you Want to Twitter?

When Twitter first started, people were a little perplexed. I mean why on earth would you want to blog in 140 characters? Well since the site emerged in 2006, it's grown enormously in popularity. With Twitter pages from sites like CNN and every one of the political candidates, the site's popularity can't be overstated. Nor can its applications for the future. Also, even if you don’t have a ton of people following your tweets, keep in mind that Twitter search sites are popping up everywhere. This means that if you tweet using keywords that matter to your reader/market, you could be found and followed! For one such search site check out: summarize. Also, if you're trying to gauge the popularity of a certain word or phrase and how often it's being used or referred to, you can head on over to Tweet Volume and find out. Just plug in your search term or terms and up will pop a list of results!

Most Well-Known Twitter Users

• Many organizations (such as the Los Angeles Fire Department) have embraced the technology and put it to use in situations such as the October 2007 California wildfires.

• Higher education is also using the technology to relay important information to students in a more timely manner. The University of Texas at San Antonio College of Engineering is one such example.

• Several U.S. presidential campaigns use Twitter as a publicity mechanism, Ron Paul, John Edwards, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton all have Twitter pages.

• Media outlets such as CNN have also started using Twitter to break news.

How to Use Twitter Effectively

If you've pondered using Twitter but aren't sure how to use it effectively, here are some quick tips to give you some great twittering-ideas:

• Teach stuff - teach a little mini-lesson on Twitter. Delve into your area of expertise or just talk about book publishing and how to get published.

• Showcase your book - don't do this in a "my book is so fabulous" kind of way but offer to give advice (like I mention in Teach Stuff) or share with your Twitter followers how the promotion of the book is going.

• Use Twitter as a news source: you can easily announce news both from your world (as long as it relates to your topic) and from the world of your expertise. So for example I've done tweets on book industry stuff, breaking news, etc.

• Widen your network - follow other Twitter folk, this will not only give you some ideas for your own "tweets" but it's a great way to network with other writers or professionals.

• Keep the buzz going when you're on the move - it's hard to keep blogging when you're on the road (trust me, I know this first hand) - so when I travel, I tweet. I share what I'm doing, what's happening in my world and try to offer insight and advice.

• Market yourself - remember that while Twitter may seem like a fun little tool, it's also a great way to market yourself. Just like the ideas we mention above, there are a hundred+ more things you can do.

Golden Rules of Twitter:

Here are a few rules to live by when tweeting:

• Be Original, useful and helpful.

• Every Tweet counts (don't tell people you're washing your cat) don't just tweet on useless stuff or you'll lose followers.

• Ask questions: you've got a network (or you want one) now use it! Ask questions, take surveys, get your followers involved in your message and marketing!

• It's not all about you (again, back to the cat) people want to know useful stuff, I know, it's getting repetitive but there's a reason: it's important.

• Promote your Twitter account in your email signature line and on your blog.

• Network: don't expect your followers to grow if you're not following other people. Network, search for others in your area and follow them.

• Personal is ok. Even though I said not to post useless information it's still not a bad idea to (from time to time) post a personal Tweet or two. Provide value and twitter-followers will beat a path to your door.

• Keep Twittering, followers will come if you keep updating your Twitter account.

5 Reasons To Avoid Twitter, And Why You Should Not.

If you are not familiar with Twitter then you are probably not up to speed on social networking. But if you have not decided to create a Twitter account, you are definitely not alone. Many internet marketers are wary of using Twitter for a number of reasons. Here are the top 5.

1. Useless Information. It is true that many Twitter users update their Twitters with completely useless information. Do you really need to know that someone just finished their second cup of coffee or is leaving the office early for a pedicure? The good news is that if you find that you do not particularly enjoy a person’s tweets, you do not have to continue following them. But do not eliminate this option altogether. One of the most important aspects of Web 2.0 is engaging people in all aspects of their lives, even the mundane stuff. Share yourself, welcome the opportunity to let others share themselves with you, and you will go a long way toward building a loyal customer base. People are much more willing to do business with you if they think you have a vested interest in their needs and thoughts.

2. It is a Waste of My Time. This is probably the most valid reason of all. But the truth is that many marketers generate traffic and leads when potential customers find them through Twitter. When the content you share is relevant and high-quality, you can drive visitors to your website to learn more. Twitter is simply another tool for online marketing, so do not write it off until you have given it a shot to see what it can do for you. 3. It is Time-Consuming. Like any online endeavor, you can blow a lot of valuable time following your streams and entering your own tweets. If you are afraid that your market may be too nichey for Twitter, remember that your job as a marketer is to find people where they are. If there are a few folks on Twitter within your niche, put yourself there as well.

5. It Could Lead to Bad Press. Whether you are on Twitter or not, people are still talking about you, and you need to know about it. Even if there is poor feedback on Twitter, you need the opportunity to let folks know that you are aware and that you are going to do something about whatever it is that has disappointed them. If you respond quickly to the concerns of your detractors, you will go a long way towards putting out potentially damaging fires. Thoughtful responses make a huge difference in customer attitudes. Remember that if a critical mass of bloggers pick up on negative press and write about it themselves, things can get out of hand very quickly. On the other hand, you can make a great name for yourself if you address customer concerns promptly and tactfully.

There you have it. No more excuses for avoiding Twitter. Even if you think It is the most ridiculous tool ever invented, you still need to check it out for yourself. Give it some time and see what it can do for you. Explore different applications of this valuable tool and let it help you grow your business.

I figured that this may help alot of people reading becuase I always notice the most of the questions are about Articles.

In this blog post, I am going explain to you the system that you can use almost immediately and start implementing to your online business today!

In order to get free traffic flowing to your website, you need to follow the nine steps in the A9 Process.

STEP ONE: Write an article.

Your article needs to be between 300 and 500 words long. Make sure you are writing good content about your business. The key is to have your viewers learn and benefit from the information you are giving.

Tips to Writing an Article: If you have an information product you want to sell, you should take your product and break it down into small pieces. These pieces will become the articles, so to speak. If you do not like writing articles, or writing at all for that matter, you have the option to outsource it.

STEP TWO: Submit your Article

Once you have submitted your article to one article submission website, other websites will pick up your information and pass it around as well.

Here are a few things you need to do before you submit your article:

Create a summary about your article.

STEP THREE: Rework Your Article into a Press Release and then Submit.

To rework your article into a press release, you need to visit this site:

when you go to this website, it will explain exactly what you will need to do in order to format your press release correctly. A press release needs to be more like an announcement, rather than just news being given (like an article is traditionally written). However, you want to stick with the content you have already come up with, you're just changing it to fit a different media.

Once you have completed your press release, it is now time to submit it to press release submission websites. There are two different ways you can do this:

1. The FREE way where you go out to all the free press release submission websites and post your information

2. You can use www.prwebdirect.com and pay to have your press release submitted.

Both have equally good ways to submit your article, but obviously the paid is a little less work. Just like submitting your article, you will do the same steps submitting your press release. This step is highly important because press releases get passed around the internet like wild fire. STEP FOUR: Rework Your Article into a Video.

You want to rework your article into a video. This is can get a little complicated. If you are not proficient in using the PC or do not want to learn please hire this stuff out - it will save you loads of time.

What you will need to start out with is some recording equipment maybe a microphone and a program called Sound Forge built by Sony. With this, you can record yourself reading your article. You can also hire a voice talent to do this work; typically a professional voice talent gets paid at least $100 per hour.

When you have your audio created and ready to go, it is time to start creating the video. We use Microsoft PowerPoint to create template slides to use in our video and we use a program call Sony Vegas Movie Studio to put the audio and template slides all together.

You want to create at least 3 to 5 slides with key bullet points in your article. If more slides are needed, then you can make more (3 to 5 should be enough). When you create your slide make sure to save them as a picture file like "jpeg" so that you can import them into Sony Vegas Movie Studio. Once you have all of these items you will need to import the media into Sony Vegas Movie Studio and start building your video.

This is where you can find the right equipment and the right training on how to do this task. Once you're finished editing your video you will need to create the different video files. You need to make sure to create 3 different file formats. This will help you get more visibility on sites that use different video formats (mpeg1, mpeg2, rm).


STEP FIVE: Submit video.

Now you're ready to start submitting your videos to video submission websites. To do this, you will need to submit your video to different video submission websites. Just like the article submission, and PR (Press Release) submission websites you will need to create accounts at all the different video submission websites. Then you log into the site and upload your video. This will take a little bit of time because videos take some time to upload. You will then need to create a description for your video so that the video submission sites know what content you have uploaded to them.

The results you get from video submissions are fantastic. Videos have become the staple for the internet today. The Big 3 (Google, Yahoo, MSN) are trying to turn the internet into the next television, so videos get ranked very high.

STEP SIX: Turn your audio into a Pod Cast.

Since you already have your audio file created (you used it in the video presentation), you need to pod cast it. Pod casting is one of the quickest ways to start your own radio station. With iTunes having over 200 million users, there should be no reason why you would not want to start pod casting today. When you use iTunes 4.9 or later, Apple has taken pod casting mainstream by building everything you need to find, subscribe to, manage, and listen to pod casts right in iTunes. You can publish your podcast to iTunes (as long as it's free of copyrighted material and overtly explicit content) and reach a potential audience of millions. STEP SEVEN: Create a blog entry.

By taking the code from your video in YouTube and using the content from your article, you can create a blog entry.

Simply copy your videos code and then paste it into the code section of your blog. Next you need to copy your article and post that in the view section of your blog. Then you hit the publish button and that's it!

Blogging your content will help you create another media to pass your information. Plus the blog "pings" different blog search engines (which is just a fancy way of saying your blog automatically tells these places that it has content.). These blog search engines will post your information on their site creating more back links to your website.

STEP EIGHT: Create a Squidoo Lens.

To make a Squidoo Lens, you use your video and audio content. Squidoo is an insanely easy-to-build page online. It's popular way to drive more traffic to your website. If you want to get the word out about something, sell something, share information, or just love to create and express yourself, then you shouldn't miss out on this task.

It is super easy to do - Squidoo has a wizard that walks you through creating the lens. It's also very simple to add your video from youtube because you can search for it through Squidoo and they will create the video code for you. This is a great site to be on because it is considered an authority site on the internet and it has a page rank of 7. You can also put links back to your website on their site for free! This should be a no brainier as to why you would want to use this site to drive traffic.


STEP NINE: Bookmark Your Video Links.

The last step entails you to social bookmark your video links. This will help you boost your videos higher in the search engines. Ultimately, this will boost your main site even higher. A social bookmark site is just like using the bookmark tab in your browser. It bookmarks the sites you're interested in. Although, rather than being on your computer, a social bookmark site allows you to save them online... so you can visit these book marks from any computer.

Just like the other sites, you have to create an account (login and password). Title your link, create a description (that is where you can put your call to action) and create your custom tags (in these are the keywords your are trying to promote). Once you're finished with one site, you move on to the next and do it again.

A. Well I asked how I could most help them. You know - I've been online since 1995 and make a lot of money online but I was keen to tap into their BIGGEST challenges and needs. So I asked them what sort of information they wanted to learn. What style of learning they preferred and how they wanted this information to be delivered. I was totally blown away by the responses - I got 1489 people completing the survey!



Q. So what did they say?



A. There some big common themes that kept coming up as I looked at the responses and all the comments. These were that people want something that is STEP BY STEP, something that is AFFORDABLE and something that takes you right FROM BEGINNING and doesn't leave anything out. 2. Now onto that reader's question.

You may remember that a couple of months ago I gave you a free download of a report on "Bum Marketing". If you missed it here's the link again:

That brief report prompted a question from one of your fellow subscribers and I thought that you may appreciate reading it for yourself along with my answer and a related article from a rather more "expert" marketer than myself.

Of course I'll not mention his/her name, and I'll also not mention the specific product he/she mentioned. (Have you seen any of those old TV shows; "The names have been changed to protect the innocent"?)

The question:

I'm reading the bum marketing report in the ezine right now and have two quick questions.

1). You write an article for each of the keywords? So I would assume you lace the keywords into the title header, sub-header, footer, etc...?

2). How would you go about doing keyword research on a product name? For instance, if I was trying to promote something like {affililate marketing product}?

Do you research words on adwords, make money at home, or just on the term {affililate marketing product}?

I want to target people who are looking for {affililate marketing product}, but also want to appeal to the fence sitters, or people who are just curious about how to make money online.

Of course I realize that I'll be writing articles forever if I try to go this route. What do you think is the best approach?

3. My response? Here goes:

Now, if you're interested in pursuing bum marketing in detail, I can recommend a great course on it by a guy named Travis Sago, and the best part is the price ... free! (You do need to sign up for it though.) You can find it here:

It's really because of Travis that Bum Marketing has become more well known recently.

Anyway, in answer to your questions;

1) Yes, you'd do best to do an article on each major keyword OR KEYWORD PHRASE you want to target, including it in the title/header, sub-title if any, "resource box" (is that what you mean by "footer"?) and of course throughout the article itself - but in a natural and relevant way, so you don't flood the article and have the opposite effect to the one you want.

2) But choose those keywords carefully. Think about what keywords and phrases you'd use in searching for that type of product and have a good read through the sales page for {affiliate marketing product} and see if you can work out which keywords the copywriter was aiming at. That may be a good place to start, but those keywords are likely to be VERY competitive and may be hard to get your articles noticed.

So, either download the free software "Good Keywords" (I can't remember the URL, so Google it), or go to the Overture keyword suggestion tool at:

http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion

(N.B. June 06, 2007 I understand that's no longer being kept up to date as well as it once was, try Googling "free keyword suggestion tool" - I'll try to track one down and let you know.)

You can use either tool (along with your imagination and some brainstorming) to help you come up with some 2 or 3 word keyword phrases - also known as "long-tail keywords". You should then do a Google search using some of those phrases and check out how many results come up for each.

Generally, the longer the keyword phrase is (within reason), the better off you'll be, because;

a) there'll be much less competition, so you're more likely to make it onto the first or second page of the search results, and

b) the people that go to the trouble of using longer phrases are much more targeted and more likely to buy than those that only use single keywords.

For example, Google "business" and you get 1,520,000,000 results! (That's 1.5 Billion!)

Whereas "home business" returns "only" 8,350,000, a tad over 8 Million.

On the other hand, "home business on a budget" gets 45,100 results.

And, "home business on a tight budget" gets 663!

So, you'd be much more lkely to see your articles listed in the first or second page in those last two searches than in either of the others.

And as you get more specific, but staying relevant and without getting ridiculous, it'll most likely get better.

Sure "business" gets a lot more searches, but when was the last time you went beyond page 2 or 3 of the results pages? Let alone any further.

To put it bluntly, would you rather be on the first page of 60 that only gets searched a few times, or the 1,000th page of 1.5 billion, even if it is searched for thousands of times?

These examples are just a few off the top of my head and you could no doubt come up with many much better ones, given a bit of time and effort.

Once you've written some articles, Travis suggests the best places to submit them are GoArticles.com & EzineArticles.com, but you can also use some of the other high PR article sites, such as iSnare.com.

Writing articles is a big topic on its own and it's been discussed briefly in past issues of my newsletter. There are also a huge number of good guides available (I've sold a couple in past issues of my newsletter), so I won't go into it here. But, if you find the hardest part of writing articles is "getting started", and you haven't got any info to help you, you might consider PLR (Private Label Rights) articles.

Just remember they'll need to be modified or re-written to make them different from the other versions out there and to be more targeted to your own keyword selections.

Do a Google search for "free plr articles" and you'll find a number of alternative sources for the base articles.

As requested by many members, I've compiled a huge keyword list related to Secret Affiliate Weapon and affiliate marketing for your promotional use...

Among other methods, you can apply these keywords and keyword phrases in your article promotion, pay-per-click campaigns and classified ad sites like

Craig's List
USFreeAds.com
Sell.com

The key is to ride on high-ranking and frequently spidered sites in Google and other search engines to get free search engine traffic.

This effectively means you don't have to bother about search engine optimization on your own...just tap on the traffic and rankings of highly-ranked websites.

Lets take the example of articles...

To do this, you need to write 300-700 word articles based around at least one highly-targeted keyword phrase in each article.

The longer and more precise your keyword phrase is - the more targeted your visitor will be, plus it's actually easier to get ranked for detailed keyword phrases.

The keyword phrase should be repeated at least 1%-2.5% in your article - once in the title, introduction and the rest in the body of your article.

If you do not know what an article is, go to article directories like GoArticles.com to have a look at other people's articles.

You can also find all sorts of articles using keyword search with the free content tool at ContentRover.com

After you've written your keyword-rich articles, submit them to just a few high-ranking article directories. (Like GoArticles.com)

You can find these by going to Google.com and typing in "article directories".

If you do this right, your articles will appear at the top of the search engines when someone does a search for that particular keyword phrase your article is written around (takes about a few days to 2 weeks).

What happens is the visitor will see your article, visit it and click on your URL in your resource box if they like your article.

The url SHOULD be your OPT-IN PAGE, NOT your plain affiliate link.

You capture leads FIRST then redirect to your affiliate link.

You then follow up with the leads to convert more of them into affiliate commissions.

This helps you to build a list while increasing your affiliate commissions when you follow up with your leads. This is leverage at work. You can see an example at LoseFats.com

Please refer to the master training blueprint and "1 Week Affiliate Profit Plan" in the Secret Affiliate Weapon member's area if you don't know what I'm talking about or what an opt-in page is.

You can do the above with classified ad sites like USFreeAds too.

Classified ads are in general useless... but if you're getting eyeballs instead from the search engines to your ad then there's a difference - it's called targeted traffic. Just don't depend on people popping up from nowhere to read your classified ads.

The approach is all about TAPPING on other highly-ranked sites to get targeted traffic to your own site.

Simple and it works.

But this is only ONE method of promoting your affiliate programs, there are TONS more.

As always, I encourage an integrated approach and not putting your eggs into one basket.

You Can't Solve All Problems With Great Copywriting.

So many people I talk to think when they aren't selling something well, something is wrong with their copy.

While this is sometimes the case, I find more often than not the problem has to do with a fundamental marketing issue. What do I mean?

The other day, I drove by this video rental store and noticed they went out of business. I think two and a half years ago I drove by the same place, and I was with a friend, and I said to him, "You know, I bet in a couple of years they will go out of business."

My friend said, "How do you know?"

I told him the rental place would go out of business because the trend now is moving away from rentals and commodities. People instead are turning toward the Internet, toward online on demand videos for example, to online video technology; people are getting what they need online not offline.

It Isn't Always About Copy…


A lot of the time my subscribers send me emails asking for help. Last week for example this fellow sent me an email telling me he's selling a commodity, electronics, and he wanted some copywriting advice. He thought he needed better copywriting to elicit better sales.

Very often people think they have a copywriting problem when the problem is much bigger. In this case, the problem had nothing to do with copywriting.

What this business owner had was a fundamental business problem; finding a way to differentiate himself from everyone else selling electronics.

Selling a commodity like electronics is hard. A lot of time people shopping for electronics look for the lowest price and that is why they buy from a retailer.

So what's the takeaway?

Big Idea - 1


You have to distinguish your business from the rest, dig yourself out from under the trenches. If you are selling a commodity for example, you have to get out of the business if you sell something everyone else does, or find a way to add value to your business so you are THE ONLY ONE to offer a particular service.

Big Idea - 2


Only start a business if you know your profit margin will be 100% or more. Here's another common scenario that happens to me. Often someone comes to me and says, "Well I have this great product, but the profit margin is really paper thin." Then they ask for copywriting advice.

This isn't a copywriting problem. Better copywriting won't solve a profit margin problem; this is an economic problem. Personally, I won't get into any business where the profit margin isn't 100% or more. To operate at a 10, 20 or 30 percent margin is just not my cup of tea. I would always go with the business opportunity that will offer the highest profit margin.

Big Idea - 3


You can't sell a product that has no market, no matter how great the copy. Other people think copywriting is THE solution to all their problems. It isn't. Not always. I don't care how great the copywriting or marketing is, if you try to sell something with little demand, you won't sell anything. You have to recognize that. You can't sell a product nobody wants.

Don't even think about selling something that has no market. Sell something that has massive demand rather than sell to a market that doesn't exist.

Here's the bottom line for all of you still scratching your heads…
if you sell a commodity that isn't selling, get out of the business entirely or find a better way to sell. Find a way to differentiate yourself from the rest. Look to the future and consider the market for your product one, two and five years from now. Then, consider a plan B you can fall back on if trends change.

Affiliate marketing is a relationship between a merchant and hisaffiliates. These people are making a huge mistake. Residual affiliate programsmay pay at a lower rate, but merchants offering such programs pay youcommissions every month for every single sale! That means, you getpaid over and over for the same effort it took to promote a one-timecommission program!

Let's look at an example of how this works:

Suppose there are two online merchants both offering web hosting services on their sites. The first merchant offers a one-time commission that pays $50 for every sale. The second merchant also offers an affiliate program, but this one is a residual affiliateprogram that pays just $10 for every sale.

As an affiliate, you may be attracted to the first offer -- $50 is definitely a lot more than $10. But let's not forget that the second program pays every month for the same sale. In 12 months, you'll have made $120.

You'll get paid monthly for as long as the customer you referred continues to use the web hosting service. In other words, you get paid over and over for the same amount of effort it took to earn the one-time commission.

So, are residual affiliate programs worth promoting? Definitely yes, because you will earn more money in the long run! And you're buildinga consistent, ever-growing income that you can count on every month.
