Michael here. Welcome to the latest issue of "e-BizResources Update". I hope you're well.
Well, I finally got around to sending you an actual newsletter issue, believe it or not. I truly am sorry for the delay - you know the old saying about "the best laid plans ..." etc. I seem to fall prey to it pretty often.
Just after I sent out my last proper issue, where I talked briefly about the drought situation that we've been experiencing here in Australia, I found out that some parts of the US are also experiencing drought. So, I just wanted to encourage you to spare a thought and a prayer (if that's your way, as it is mine) for people in crisis, wherever they may be.

This is a fairly short edition, but I hope very helpful. The main focus is on a question that I received a few weeks ago. I'll get onto that shortly.

Now onto that reader's question.
You may remember that a couple of months ago I gave you a free download of a report on "Bum Marketing". If you missed it here's the link again:

That brief report prompted a question from one of your fellow subscribers and I thought that you may appreciate reading it for yourself along with my answer and a related article from a rather more "expert" marketer than myself.
Of course I'll not mention his/her name, and I'll also not mention the specific product he/she mentioned. (Have you seen any of those old TV shows; "The names have been changed to protect the innocent"?)
The question:
I'm reading the bum marketing report in the ezine right now and have two quick questions.
1). You write an article for each of the keywords? So I would assume you lace the keywords into the title header, sub-header, footer, etc...?
2). How would you go about doing keyword research on a product name? For instance, if I was trying to promote something like
{affililate marketing product}?
Do you research words on adwords, make money at home, or just on the term
{affililate marketing product}?
I want to target people who are looking for
{affililate marketing product}, but also want to appeal to the fence sitters, or people who are just curious about how to make money online.
Of course I realize that I'll be writing articles forever if I try to go this route. What do you think is the best approach?

My response? Here goes:Now, if you're interested in pursuing bum marketing in detail, I can recommend a great course on it by a guy named Travis Sago, and the best part is the price ... free! (You do need to sign up for it though.) You can find it here:
Bum Marketing MethodIt's really because of Travis that Bum Marketing has become more well known recently.
Anyway, in answer to your questions;
1) Yes, you'd do best to do an article on each major keyword OR KEYWORD PHRASE you want to target, including it in the title/header, sub-title if any, "resource box" (is that what you mean by "footer"?) and of course throughout the article itself - but in a natural and relevant way, so you don't flood the article and have the opposite effect to the one you want.
2) But choose those keywords carefully. Think about what keywords and phrases you'd use in searching for that type of product and have a good read through the sales page for
{affiliate marketing product} and see if you can work out which keywords the copywriter was aiming at. That may be a good place to start, but those keywords are likely to be VERY competitive and may be hard to get your articles noticed.
So, either download the free software "Good Keywords" (I can't remember the URL, so Google it), or go to the Overture keyword suggestion tool at:
http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion(N.B. June 06, 2007 I understand that's no longer being kept up to date as well as it once was, try Googling "free keyword suggestion tool" - I'll try to track one down and let you know.)
You can use either tool (along with your imagination and some brainstorming) to help you come up with some 2 or 3 word keyword phrases - also known as "long-tail keywords". You should then do a Google search using some of those phrases and check out how many results come up for each.
Generally, the longer the keyword phrase is (within reason), the better off you'll be, because;
a) there'll be much less competition, so you're more likely to make it onto the first or second page of the search results, and
b) the people that go to the trouble of using longer phrases are much more targeted and more likely to buy than those that only use single keywords.
For example, Google "business" and you get 1,520,000,000 results! (That's 1.5 Billion!)
Whereas "home business" returns "only" 8,350,000, a tad over 8 Million.
On the other hand, "home business on a budget" gets 45,100 results.
And, "home business on a tight budget" gets 663!
So, you'd be much more lkely to see your articles listed in the first or second page in those last two searches than in either of the others.
And as you get more specific, but staying relevant and without getting ridiculous, it'll most likely get better.
Sure "business" gets a lot more searches, but when was the last time you went beyond page 2 or 3 of the results pages? Let alone any further.
To put it bluntly, would you rather be on the first page of 60 that only gets searched a few times, or the 1,000th page of 1.5 billion, even if it is searched for thousands of times?
These examples are just a few off the top of my head and you could no doubt come up with many much better ones, given a bit of time and effort.
Once you've written some articles, Travis suggests the best places to submit them are
GoArticles.com &
EzineArticles.com, but you can also use some of the other high PR article sites, such as
iSnare.com.

Writing articles is a big topic on its own and it's been discussed briefly in past issues of my newsletter. There are also a huge number of good guides available (I've sold a couple in past issues of my newsletter), so I won't go into it here. But, if you find the hardest part of writing articles is "getting started", and you haven't got any info to help you, you might consider PLR (Private Label Rights) articles.
Just remember they'll need to be modified or re-written to make them different from the other versions out there and to be more targeted to your own keyword selections.
Do a Google search for "free plr articles" and you'll find a number of alternative sources for the base articles.

Among other methods, you can apply these keywords and keyword phrases in your article promotion, pay-per-click campaigns and classified ad sites like
Craig's ListUSFreeAds.comSell.comThe key is to ride on high-ranking and frequently spidered sites in Google and other search engines to get free search engine traffic.
This effectively means you don't have to bother about search engine optimization on your own...just tap on the traffic and rankings of highly-ranked websites.
Lets take the example of articles...
To do this, you need to write 300-700 word articles based around at least one highly-targeted keyword phrase in each article.
The longer and more precise your keyword phrase is - the more targeted your visitor will be, plus it's actually easier to get ranked for detailed keyword phrases.
The keyword phrase should be repeated at least 1%-2.5% in your article - once in the title, introduction and the rest in the body of your article.
If you do not know what an article is, go to article directories like
GoArticles.com to have a look at other people's articles.
You can also find all sorts of articles using keyword search with the free content tool at
ContentRover.comAfter you've written your keyword-rich articles, submit them to just a few high-ranking article directories. (Like
GoArticles.com)
You can find these by going to
Google.com and typing in "article directories".
If you do this right, your articles will appear at the top of the search engines when someone does a search for that particular keyword phrase your article is written around (takes about a few days to 2 weeks).
What happens is the visitor will see your article, visit it and click on your URL in your resource box if they like your article.
The url SHOULD be your OPT-IN PAGE, NOT your plain affiliate link.
You capture leads FIRST then redirect to your affiliate link.
You then follow up with the leads to convert more of them into affiliate commissions.
This helps you to build a list while increasing your affiliate commissions when you follow up with your leads. This is leverage at work. You can see an example at
LoseFats.comPlease refer to the master training blueprint and "1 Week Affiliate Profit Plan" in the Secret Affiliate Weapon member's area if you don't know what I'm talking about or what an opt-in page is.
You can do the above with classified ad sites like USFreeAds too.
Classified ads are in general useless... but if you're getting eyeballs instead from the search engines to your ad then there's a difference - it's called targeted traffic. Just don't depend on people popping up from nowhere to read your classified ads.
The approach is all about TAPPING on other highly-ranked sites to get targeted traffic to your own site.
Simple and it works.
But this is only ONE method of promoting your affiliate programs, there are TONS more.
As always, I encourage an integrated approach and not putting your eggs into one basket.
